  17. <p>     Seems President Reagan wasn't the only world leader with
  18. operatives in The Vatican. A story making the rounds in Europe
  19. has it that the kgb planted a mole in the Holy See. Boris
  20. Alexandrovitch Solomatin, the KGB's Rome chief from 1976 to
  21. 1982, claims that Soviet intelligence viewed the Vatican as a
  22. hotbed of diplomatic secrets. Trouble was, once the KGB had
  23. recruited its St. Peter's agent, it had a little difficulty
  24. controlling him: apparently his religious convictions interfered
  25. with his supersecret political mission.
